WSAMA HOLIDAY BANQUET AND AWARDS CEREMONY was held on December 16th at the Capitol Area Christian Church, Mechanicsburg. The night was dedicated to the memory of Sam Mizrahi, a 1st Dan Black Belt who passed away earlier this year.  A $150.00 donation was made by the students and instructors of WSAMA to an organization Sam was very involved with, the Diabetic Youth Camp.

RAGING BULL KICKBOXING SHOW MECHANICSBURG (November 4) - Congratulations to Bryce Sheaffer for achieving two milestones: winning his first ever Full Contact Kickboxing match with a first round TKO, and representing the WSAMA as its first competitive full contact kickboxer.  The event, sanctioned by the Keystone International Kickboxing Association, provided an exciting night with 5 KO's/TKO's and 2 unanimous decisions. Sheaffer's match was versus James Moose of VA.

 

SILVER SPRING FALL FEST 2006 MECHANICSBURG (October 14) - The Academy's Demo Team Spitfire continues to perform at local events. This time, to the delight of young and old at this year's Silver Spring Fall Fest held at Willow Mill Park. The Recreation Department's director, Marie Daubert, appreciated their effort with the hope of doing it again next year! Great job Team Spitfire!!  

 

 

PUMPKINFEST 2006 ENOLA (October 7 & 8) - The Academy enjoyed two days of brilliant fall weather and a sense of community participating in this year's Pumpkinfest. WSAMA's Demo Team Spitfire once again wowed the crowd with martial arts entertainment during the early part of the festival on Saturday. As seen in the picture to our right, Miss Stacie and Sombumnim Loder were on hand to help those in need!   

 

HALLOWEEN @ WSAMA The WSAMA invited students, family and friends to our Halloween Roller Skating Party at Olympic Skating in Enola on Sunday Oct. 29th. HOMESCHOOL MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM WSAMA Homeschool classes have resumed and are scheduled every Tuesday morning from 9:10am - 10am. The program is ongoing and students are welcome to start anytime during the course of the 2006 - 2007 School Year (October 2006 through April 2007). Please call the office at 761-3527 or stop in for more information.

KEYSTONE STATE GAMES YORK (July 29) - Congratulations Deanna Vergara, member of Team Lions' Pride, for taking 1st Place in Weapons and Forms at this year's Keystone State Games. Great Job, Deanna!

LOSS IN THE FAMILY Samuel J. Mizrahi, 16, of Dillsburg, PA, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2006 as the result of an automobile accident. He was born October 6, 1989 in Harrisburg, PA.

Sam would have entered the 11th grade at Northern York High School and was involved in the honors program. He also worked part time as a cashier at Giant Food. Sam was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. He earned his black belt in Karate at the West Shore Academy of Martial Arts and was an avid video gamer. Sam also was a passionate camper and camp counselor at the Harrisburg Diabetic Youth Camp, but most of all he was a loving son and brother. Sam is survived by his loving parents, Joseph S. and Virginia K. "Ginny" (Little) Mizrahi; a sister, Nikki M. Mizrahi of Dillsburg; maternal grandparents, Lester and Betty Little, of Waynesboro, PA and paternal grandparents, Ray and Gail Vogel of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harrisburg Diabetic Youth Camp, c/o Setebaid Services, Inc., P.O. Box 196, Winfield, PA 17889-0196.

 

WSAMA'S ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC WSAMA will be celebrating its annual Summer Picnic this Saturday June 10th from 12 to 4pm at Seibert Memorial Park in Camp Hill off Bypass on Route 15 (Click here for map). Sign up poster is up at the dojang. As a special treat, the Demo Team will be performing @ 1pm. As always, the use of the park's facilities including pool, basketball courts, etc. will be available to our students, friends and family. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

 

MDA LOCK-UP WORMLEYSBURG (June 8) Every year, the Muscular Dystrophy Association sponsors the MDA Lock-Up to help raise money for "Jerry's Kids." The money raised goes towards sending children to the MDA Summer Camp, buy wheelchairs, fund research, and a host of other MDA activities. This year, our own Megan Loder was chosen to be locked up for "GOOD". She was arrested at the end of the morning Adults Class and taken to Angelina's Restaurant to raise bail (donations). Thanks to friends and family, Miss Loder raised more than $1200. Great job, Miss Loder!

CAPITOL CITY KARATE CLASSIC HARRISBURG (June 3) - Congratulations LJ Aurelio, member of Team Lions' Pride, for taking 1st Place in three events: Weapons, Forms and Fighting. LJ also won the Grand Championships in Weapons and Forms. Great Job, LJ!!!

 

JUNE ADULTS CLASS PROMOTIONS Senior Black Belt Promotion is Saturday, June 3rd at 8am. The Adults Color Belt Promotion will follow @ 10am.  Please hand in paperwork by Thursday June 1st.

 

PICTURE DAY WSAMA's Picture Day is coming up Wednesday May 31st. Individual pictures will start 4:30pm. Group pictures will be taken @ 6pm. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

 

 

CAMP HILL MEMORIAL DAY PARADE CAMP HILL (May 29) Students of WSAMA participated in this year's Memorial Day Parade in Camp Hill. ARTS OF WAR CHALLENGE  YORK, PA (May 20) - Congratulations to the members of Team Lions' Pride for another successful showing in competition. Noteworthy: This was the first time Team Lions' Pride competed in a "Team Demo" event and took 1st Place; truly a testament to what effort and teamwork can accomplish. MARYLAND STATE KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS CUMBERLAND, MD (March 26) - Congratulations to the members of Team Lions' Pride who participated in this well-attended and highly competitive tournament. Noteworthy: LJ Aurelio won the Grand Championships in both Forms and Weapons. And, in the words of one of the ring judges in Point Fighting, Deanna Vergara won by a score of 5-0 for First Place in "one of the fastest matches" he's ever seen. FOLLOW-UP TO THE ANTI-TERRORIST SEMINARS Two anti-terrorist defense seminars were held on January 28 by Master Fred Waters. Techniques geared for military, police and civilians included defense against sticks, knives, guns and rifles. The Redman Suit (body armor) was used for full contact practice. It was a fun, great learning experience. We'll keep you updated when Master Waters is available again!
